Fukagawa Edo Museum will display an eight-meter Tanabata decoration from June 12
Near Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, Fukagawa Edo Museum is starting a seasonal display that recreates Tanabata as an Edo annual custom.
Fukagawa Edo Museum will begin its Tanabata decoration display on Friday, June 12, 2026. The seasonal installation runs through Sunday, July 12 inside the permanent exhibition hall near Kiyosumi-Shirakawa.
According to the museum, the display recreates an Edo-period custom using an approximately eight-meter bamboo decoration based on historical materials. The explanation notes that people once tied wishes to tanzaku slips together with paper brushes, watermelons, gourds, abacuses, and account books.
Viewing is included with the permanent exhibition admission ticket, listed at 400 yen for adults and 50 yen for elementary through high school students. Museum hours are 9:30 to 17:00 with last admission at 16:30, so it is worth checking the official page before visiting if you want to plan a daytime stop around Kiyosumi-Shirakawa.
