Fukagawa Edo Museum will turn its permanent gallery into a ghost house for three days

Yokai will appear in the recreated late-Edo Fukagawa streetscape, with a related market on August 22 and 23.

Fukagawa Edo Museum will hold Obake no Sumika, or Ghost House, in its permanent exhibition from Friday, August 21, through Sunday, August 23, 2026. The event changes the museum's life-size recreation of late-Edo Fukagawa into a setting where visitors may encounter moving yokai.

Hours are 18:00–21:00 on August 21, 9:30–21:00 on August 22, and 9:30–19:00 on August 23, with final admission 30 minutes before closing. Admission is ¥300 for adults and ¥30 for elementary, junior-high, and high-school students. No advance reservation is available, and re-entry is not permitted.

Visitors may enter the recreated houses but must not touch the exhibits or ghost performers. A small Fukagawa ghost market runs from 10:00 to 18:00 in the basement recreation hall on August 22 and 23; market-only entry is not available, so visitors need Ghost House admission. The museum is at 1-3-28 Shirakawa near Kiyosumi-shirakawa Station. There is no event parking, and children of elementary-school age or younger must visit with a guardian.
