Edo-Tokyo Museum renewal special exhibition on Meiji Western-style buildings opens June 23
The exhibition at the museum's 1st-floor special exhibition room focuses on Western-style architecture in the Meiji period.
Edo-Tokyo Museum's renewal special exhibition, Yokan: Meiji Dreams and Challenges, opens in Ryogoku on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, and runs through Sunday, August 23.
The Sumida tourism site says the exhibition covers the world of Western-style buildings in the Meiji period through a variety of materials and spatial displays, including pseudo-Western buildings by master carpenters and work connected to foreign engineers and architects.
Regular hours are 9:30 to 17:30, with later Saturday closing and selected Friday night openings in August. The museum lists Mondays as closed, with some holiday exceptions, so confirm the calendar before visiting.
