Edo-Tokyo Museum will open its Western-style Architecture in Japan special exhibition on June 23
The Ryogoku museum is preparing a summer exhibition on Meiji-era Western-style architecture.
The Edo-Tokyo Museum in Ryogoku will open its special exhibition Western-style Architecture in Japan on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The exhibition will run through Sunday, August 23 in the first-floor special exhibition room.
According to the museum, the show looks at how Western-style buildings spread in the Meiji period, from early giyofu architecture by master carpenters to full-scale Western buildings by foreign and Japanese architects.
Opening hours are 9:30 to 17:30, with Saturday evening hours extended to 19:30 and to 21:00 on August 7, 14, and 21. The museum is generally closed on Mondays, except July 20 and August 10, and advance tickets are on sale until June 21.
