Edo-Tokyo Museum holds lecture on paintings by ukiyo-e artists on September 15
A senior curator from the Idemitsu Museum of Arts will explain how painted works differ from prints and what painting meant to ukiyo-e artists.
The Edo-Tokyo Museum will hold a lecture about paintings by ukiyo-e artists from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. It is connected to the exhibition Ukiyo-e Invitation: The First Encounter between the Edo-Tokyo Museum and the Idemitsu Collection.
Nobuhiko Hiromi, a senior curator at the Idemitsu Museum of Arts, will discuss works painted entirely by the artists themselves, how they differ from woodblock prints, and what painting meant in an ukiyo-e artist's practice. The venue is the museum's Main Hall, with capacity for 350 people.
The fee is ¥1,000. Apply online or by return postcard by Friday, August 28; a lottery will be held if applications exceed capacity. One person may submit one application, and duplicate online and postcard entries are not accepted. The museum is at 1-4-1 Yokoami, Sumida City.
