Sumida Heritage Museum traces Japanese aerial-fireworks technology through September 23

Sumida Heritage Museum in Mukojima is presenting a special exhibition on the development of Japanese aerial-fireworks technology from Saturday, July 11, through Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Sumida City's access guide places the museum seven minutes on foot from Tokyo Skytree Station.

The official page says the display focuses on the techniques behind aerial fireworks, which developed in a distinctive way in Japan. Listed material includes a mid-Meiji-era image of a signal-fire demonstration and a print showing evening crowds around Ryogoku Bridge from the mid-19th century.

The museum is open from 9:00 to 17:00, with last admission at 16:30. General admission is ¥100; junior-high-school-age visitors and younger, eligible disability-certificate holders, and one accompanying person enter free. It normally closes on Mondays and the fourth Tuesday, with additional fumigation closure planned for September 7-10, so check the official calendar before visiting.
