Chinowa-kuguri will be held at Asakusa Shrine and other Taito sites on June 30
Taito City has listed local places for the summer purification ritual.
Taito City has updated its listing for chinowa-kuguri, the June 30 summer purification ritual. The listed places include Asakusa Shrine, Torigoe Shrine, Sakaki Shrine, Ono Terusaki Shrine, Yasaki Inari Shrine, and Suga Shrine.
For Asakusa visitors, Asakusa Shrine is about a six-minute walk from Tobu Asakusa Station. The same city page also lists access for the Kuramae and Asakusabashi-side shrines, which makes it useful for planning a short neighborhood stop.
The city explains the custom as passing through a ring made of cogon grass in a set pattern during Nagoshi no Harae. Details can vary by shrine, so check each site’s latest notice before visiting.
